A helping hand

In January a strong earthquake shook the country of Haiti. Since then, missionaries, churches and Southern Baptist partners have been helping the people there.

On January 12, 2010 a strong earthquake hit the island country of Haiti.  More than 200,000 people died, and almost 1 million people were left without homes, food and clean water.

As soon as Baptist heard about the disaster, they began helping.   The first month after the earthquake, they gave more than 4 million to help.  Some kids gave money they had been saving to buy a toy. Some donated their allowances.  Others created crafts and sold them for a profit.

Baptists have also prayed for the people in Haiti.  Some people who have lost family members and homes say they can tell people around the world are praying for them.  That's one way you can help right now! Pray for the people of Haiti.

You don’t have to wait for a big disaster to obey Jesus and help people.  Look around your home, your church and your classroom.  Ask your parent, grandparent or teacher how you can help them.  Look around your community.  Talk to your parent or teacher for ideas.  Can you collect food for families in your community who need it? Will you spend time with lonely residents of a nursing home?

Reach out to help and change the world today!

You can give to relief organizations like Baptist Global Response, one of the IMB’s many partners during times of disaster.
